Words of Greeting: Deuteronomy 10:12-13
One: And now, Israel, what does the Lord your
God require of you,
All:
But to fear the Lord your God,
One: To walk in all his ways,
All:
To love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your
soul,
One: And to keep the commandments and statutes
of the Lord,
All:
Which I command you this day for your good.
Prayer
of Confession: Matthew 4:2-4 (from
SYATP)
One: After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The
tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these
stones to become bread." Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does
not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'
"
All: Just like Satan tempted Jesus with questioning his identity,
he will do the same with us throughout our life. The enemy will come to us
particularly after we have given in to temptation and ask us if we are really a
Christ follower. He wants us to doubt, struggle, and ultimately give up on our
faith.
One: Never
allow guilt or shame to overpower Christ’s forgiveness and redemption in us.
Satan’s questions will never overrule God’s answers.
Live on God’s Word. That is and will always be our truth.
(Silent Prayer
and Reflection)
Assurance of Pardon: Psalm 18:25-27
One: “To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to
the blameless you show yourself blameless, to the pure you show yourself pure,
but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd. You save the humble but bring low
those whose eyes are haughty." Friends, believe the good news of the
Gospel!
All: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
*Affirmation of Faith: Isaiah 43:10-13
"You are my
witnesses," declares the Lord, "and my servant whom I have chosen, so
that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god
was formed, nor will there be one after me. I, even I, am the Lord, and apart
from me there is no savior. I have revealed and saved and proclaimed- I, and
not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses," declares the Lord,
"that I am God. Yes, and from ancient days I am he. No one can deliver out
of my hand. When I act, who can reverse it?"
